General Support
History matters! The History Museum of Western Virginia is our region's collective memory, foremost storyteller and the largest private institution in our area assembling, preserving, and sharing our heritage. We have been helping people make a meaningful connection to the past by collecting, preserving and sharing the stories of southwestern Virginia and the nation since 1957. Whether it's a grandfather researching his family tree, a community saving a treasured landmark, a scholar seeking a rare artifact, or a mom planning a fun family outing, the History Museum is dedicated to helping them all find the answers to their questions about history.
The History Museum presents traveling and changing exhibits which highlight topics and events of regional interest. It offers both in-museum and outreach hands-on educational programs to thousands of school children annually, For adults there are tours to historic sites and lectures by speakers on topics of historical interest.
Our outstanding educational programs, research, conservation, publications, exhibitions, as well as our Virtual Collections project advance our mission and make the past accessible to people of all ages.
We need your support to help continue and to grow these valuable programs. Your annual gift helps underwrite the day-to-day operations of the History Museum as we steward our heritage that captures the great American experience. Our work ensures that the culture and traditions of our region will not be forgotten. Your gift will help keep it alive!
