The History Museum's purpose is the collection and preservation of material pertaining to the history of the region, and the sharing of knowledge and information relating to that history. Facilities include approximately 16,850 square feet in Center in the Square, and include permanent and temporary exhibition galleries, a library, and climate-controlled collections and archival storage. Our collections comprise the largest repository of material in the Roanoke Valley devoted solely to tracing human history. The primary exhibit Crossroads of History, interprets 10,000 years of western Virginia's heritage through artifacts that span the whole of peoples' experience in the region. Our collections offer a glimpse of how life was lived in our part of the Commonwealth, creating a vivid cultural and educational experience.
Thank you for your interest in donating objects or documents to the History Museum of Western Virginia. Every year, new artifacts and documents are added to the collection through the generosity of individuals and corporations. These donations help the Museum fulfill its mission of making yesterday available today for tomorrow. If you have an artifact you would like to donate, please review our Acceptance Policies and Procedure document.
